He'e Nalu

Description: There is a surf spot here on the Big Island that is so shallow, so scary, and so rarely surfed that even the sight of a person out there causes cars to stop on Alii Drive. The take off is dry reef, the wall immediately curves into a perfect sheet of glass barrel, the directly in-front of this wave is the sharpest tube coral lava rock pile you ever imagined. I have only seen three people surf it in two years on huge swell days. I watch one of the most talent surfers I know, Sam, surf this break like it's a walk in the park. It's the most impressive sight, the most courageous act, and takes quite the strong minded person to dare try. Just one second of hesitation is death. I watch between the cracks in my fingers wanting to watch, but not wanting to at the same time. Watching this wave be surfed leaves me deeply inspired, and full of RESPECT!!!!
