Darris Hurst

  Creating professional images for over 15 years, Darris has a unique background that includes professional photography, graphic design and video production. He started his career in Eugene, Oregon where he studied under local fashion and commercial photographers as he attended art school.  After receiving degree in art from Oregon State University in 2006, he opened a successful media company. Over the next six years he created everything from high end portraiture and fashion photography to commercial presentations, music videos, television commercial, as well as  short documentary videos. This experience allowed him to work for local, national and international companies including the University of Oregon, Sporthill, REI, Lacoste and many more.

   In 2010 Darris came to Hawaii on a work trip that forever changed his life.  Inspired by the beautiful and diverse landscapes, the amazing ocean views and the easy going lifestyle he and his young family decided to make the move to Maui in 2011. He immediately started work as a freelance graphic designer, photographer, and video production specialist and after a few short months became the Creative Director here at 9th Wave Gallery and also landed a position as the Art Director at the Maui Time Weekly, Maui's alternative newspaper.

   Armed with his unique style and experience, Darris has recently started to create a new series of landscape photographs from his studio on the slopes of Haleakala. His highly technical process result in an ever growing and stunning set of images that are inspired by the ocean, the amazing landscapes and beautiful sunsets that Hawaii has to offer.  This limited edition series as well as others will be launched slowly over the next year and are exclusively available only here at 9th Wave Gallery .
